PREVIEW: LION CUBS v MIDDLESBROUGH

LEICESTER bid for a hat-trick of victories in the WSRA National Development League when they host newcomers Middlesbrough on Sunday (3pm).

Dave Howard’s side have made a very impressive start to their bid to reclaim the NDL silverware, with wins at Belle Vue and at home to Edinburgh in their opening two fixtures.

Now they go for three out of three against the Tigers, who were formed over the winter as a development team for Championship outfit Redcar, racing out of the Ecco Arena.

The visitors’ plans have changed since Archie Freeman’s retirement on the eve of the season, but they track a potentially strong top three in Jake Mulford, former Lion Cubs racer Ben Trigger and the experienced Danny Phillips, who is one of several riders with Berwick connections in the line-up.

For the Lion Cubs, they are unchanged from the win over the Monarchs Academy with Joe Thompson leading the charge as skipper, and reserves Luke Crang and Sonny Springer will look to build on their excellent opening home displays.

Howard said: “Middlesbrough have a very experienced and quite strong top five, which will be a challenge for us.

“But all of our team will give their all to aim to get a victory, and the track experience they gained against Edinburgh will boost us for Sunday.”

An added bonus for supporters on the day is six extra races to enjoy after the NDL clash as Leicester make their entry into the Midland Development League, where they take on the Birmingham Buffaloes.

Gates open at 1.30pm with a reminder that Lions season ticket holders can gain entry for just £6. Regular prices are adults £14, concessions £12 and children aged 6-17 £1.

LEICESTER: Joe Thompson, Vinnie Foord, Tom Spencer, Arran Butcher, Max James, Luke Crang, Sonny Springer.

MIDDLESBROUGH: Jake Mulford, Ben Rathbone, Danny Phillips, Jamie Halder, Ben Trigger, William Hocaniuk, Jamie Etherington.
